Contributing Author Profile

Jan Ross
Writer's Profile

The author resides with her husband in Northern Ohio.  She has been active in her local church most of her life where she has served as Women's Ministry leader, Musician, Worship Leader, adult Sunday School teacher, among other things. She is the mother of six adult children and grandmother of twelve.  Her life experiences as a wife, mother, musician, ordained minister, and missionary shine through her writing and ministry.

The Word of God has captured her heart, and it is obvious in her writing and teaching.  As a writer, the Word is the foundation of each story, poem, devotion, or article.  As a speaker, the Word is wrapped around every word she ministers.  With a deep devotion to Bible Study, she writes "Today's Devotion" a daily devotional posted on several discussion boards and emailed to thousands.  You could say the Word of God is the joy of her life while writing and teaching brings great satisfaction to her heart.  To communicate God's love to a hurting mother or distraught wife or disillusioned woman is this author's focus in life.  To know that God is glorified, whether through the written or spoken word, is her heart's cry.  Whether she ministers locally or in remote regions in Africa, her message is always the same:  "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and Jesus Christ will satisfy your every need."

December 26

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God." (Ephesians 2:8)

Today's Thought

Gifts . . .the children's eyes shine with anticipation at the mere mention of the word! Gifts . . . holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries are eagerly awaited because of them! Gifts . . . we cannot begin to comprehend the cost of one so freely given and so utterly undeserved! Gifts . . . salvation and all that comes with it!

This time of year, the gift seems to be a central part of our celebration of the birth of our King. It's important that even in the days after our gift-giving, that we stay focused on the Giver of the gift . . . the Author of our salvation. After all the paper is gone, the ribbons have disappeared, and the mystery boxes have been opened, it's very easy to fall into a slump when the excitement is over. In fact, this time of year finds a very high suicide rate because of the let-down after all the to-do connected with the Christmas celebration. People are lonelier this time of year, bills pile up quickly, and the return to the every-day commitments of work and school, etc., seems to drive people into depression and despair. Have you ever wondered why? Because the focus is on things of this world -- the gifts, the food, the parties and get-togethers -- not on the Giver of the greatest Gift of all, Salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Starting today, make it a practice to remind yourself as well as your children, other family members, neighbors, co-workers, etc., that Jesus is the reason for EVERY season, not just Christmas! And, there's so much to celebrate EVERY day of the year! Salvation by faith in Jesus Christ is the greatest motivation for celebrating and we don't even have to wait for a certain designated day . . . today and every day our hearts should be overwhelmed with joy and thanksgiving for the greatest gift of all!

The gift-giving may be over, but the Greatest Gift of All is standing with arms wide open to comfort you and give you peace even when depression knocks at your door! Keep your eyes on the Giver of the Greatest Gift and in so doing, you will bring glory to your Father! Amen!

Today's Prayer

Father, today I am reminded of the birth of Jesus, His lowly estate and mighty Lordship all wrapped up in one little babe born in a manger so many years ago. Father, one more time I want to thank You for the gift of salvation, for making the ultimate sacrifice by sending Your son in order to redeem us. Father, thank You for the free gift of salvation . . . I treasure it above all and pray that my witness will draw others to the point where they will receive the Gift of God so freely given! Lord, I love You and praise You for ALL You have done! In Jesus' name, amen and amen!

"But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ" (Ephesians 4:7)

"Today's Devotion" is currently distributed to thousands daily via email and read by countless others on discussion boards and email lists. It is this writer's dream to one day publish the entire volume for distribution in Christian and secular markets.

Missions Training Manual
Used for Women of PASSIONS as well as other ministries, a Missions Training Manual was written in 2005.  It is an easily adaptable but intensive training manual for those new to overseas missions. A copy of this manual is available to you upon request. There is a small charge for this as it is printed in full color and spiral-bound. Please feel free to request a copy. Simeon's Story
(Christmas Drama)
Performed in churches, this drama is a full-length Christmas presentation with a Messianic flare. Simeon, the prophet who prayed that he would not die until he saw the Lord's Christ instructs children with his story-telling talents concerning the covenant promise of God to send a Redeemer to Israel. It takes the audience from the promise of a Savior and follows that promise through the ages, ending with the birth of Jesus Christ, the Child of Promise.

The Wedding
(Drama)
A dramatic presentation of the love between Christ (the Bridegroom) and the Church (the Bride). Approximately 15 minutes in length, it is a powerful picture of Covenant, Love, and the Church. This has been performed several times at various churches and during women's conferences. It powerfully impacts all, leaving the audience with the deep emotional and spiritual awareness of the depth of the Bridegroom's love for His Bride.

From the Realms of Glory
(Christmas Drama)
This full-length drama has been performed in churches. There are two angels looking over the portals of heaven as they watch their Beloved leave the realms of glory on a mission to earth to redeem mankind. Complete with audience participation, this drama is a wonderful story fully developing the Christmas story.
